In 2024, Viña Real undertook an ambitious project to modernise its facilities, with the goal of increasing efficiency, sustainability, and production capacity. This initiative was made possible thanks to funding from the European Union’s FEAGA programme (Wine Sector Support Scheme 2023–2027, Exp. 40-INV2024-56).
Key improvements included the automation of critical winery processes and the implementation of new technologies to enhance both production and quality control. Notable additions include a high-precision SO₂ dosing system, a nitrogen inerting system, a monho pump, and vinoducts that improve wine flow and handling during production. The acquisition of a 40-hl foudre also allows for more complex and extended ageing processes.
In terms of energy efficiency and logistics, traditional lighting has been replaced with energy-saving LED systems equipped with motion sensors. Final stages of the bottling line have been automated, and new lifting platforms now ease the movement of heavy goods.
Security has also been reinforced with the installation of a CCTV system designed to prevent intrusions and sabotage, along with the necessary electrical infrastructure.
Together, these actions reaffirm Viña Real’s position as a benchmark winery in innovation, energy efficiency, and technical excellence in the heart of Rioja Alavesa.
