CVNE reaffirms its leadership in sustainable winemaking with the release of its 2024 Sustainability Report

05 Nov 2025

Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) presents its 2024 Sustainability Report, a document that highlights the group’s progress and commitments towards a respectful, responsible, and innovative model of viticulture.

The report consolidates more than a century of history under a clear vision: to grow sustainably and generate a positive impact on the environment, the planet, and the communities where CVNE operates.

Among the milestones achieved this year is the renewal of CVNE’s Gold Member status within International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), the global organization driving the decarbonization of the wine sector. This recognition places CVNE among a select group of international wineries committed to achieving carbon neutrality before 2050, in line with the United Nations’ Race to Zero initiative.

In 2024, the group achieved a 13.5% reduction in relative CO₂ emissions, strengthened its commitment to 100% renewable and self-generated energy, and ensured that over 99% of all packaging materials used are recyclable.
Additionally, Viñedos del Contino became the first Spanish winery to obtain the ZERYA certification, which guarantees grapes free from pesticide residues—an unprecedented achievement in Spanish viticulture.

The company has also continued to promote projects that combine sustainability, architecture, and landscape, such as the new Logistics Center in Laguardia, designed according to energy efficiency and clean energy principles, and the new aging cellar at Virgen del Galir (Valdeorras), recognized for its sustainable design using local materials.

Sustainability, excellence, and passion will continue to guide our story,” says Víctor Urrutia, CEO of CVNE, in his opening letter of the report. “Our commitment to the environment and to people is an essential part of how we understand wine.

With eight wineries located across Spain’s most renowned wine regions —Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Valdeorras, Rías Baixas, and Penedès— CVNE reaffirms its position as a benchmark in sustainable winemaking and responsible innovation.
