Jancis Robinson is in love with white Riojas and she names some of her favorites: Monopole, Contino and Monopole Clásico.
“I’ve fallen in love”. For years white Riojas left her pretty cold, but she has just tasted a dozen or so white Riojas and was really impressed by names like Monopole, Contino Blanco y Monopole Clásico. Jancis Robinson is in love with white Riojas.
“I would single out the 2019 vintage of CVNE’s Monopole, probably the best-known white rioja in Spain. […] The most sophisticated wine of all, and the one with the greatest potential for ageing, is arguably that from the Contino estate (owned by CVNE as it happens), a blend of 80% old Viura vines with Garnacha Blanca and the traditional Malvasía de Rioja. […] One interesting wine is Monopole Clásico, made from 2014 onwards as a barrel-aged homage to the sort of white rioja made in the 1970’s.”
These are words published by Jancis Robinson on “White Rioja’s Evolution“, included in her own website on June 3th 2021. White Riojas are fashionable.
